Steam will then invalidate the codes because they are no longer paid for. The retailer will turn around and tell Steam. Originally posted by Teksura:If she used a credit card, have you thought about contacting the credit card company and blocking the charges there? It's really not a mammoth task technically for steam to provide that, to at least slow the abuse If steam had a page where you could enter the gift codes and maybe provide evidence of purchase image / photo of the card, they could at least suspend the codes before use, until the case was verified. I know there are some very sophisticated criminals out there with IT knowledge (I work in IT industry dealing with this stuff) but this scumbag was very lacking - if my partner had opened the email on her laptop rather than her phone, she'd have seen the email address rather than just display name, and it was something like = no attempt to disguise or use a similar looking email prefix If they cancel the codes, and people lose out, then it will also send a message to people to NOT buy from dodgy people. My bigger issue is, that if steam can identify who has used the codes, and ideally cancel, or at least find out where the codes were bought, then they may be able to trace it back to (some of) the offender(s), and at least reduce some of the theft and send a signal out to the criminal community who are doing this.
